1968 bungalow
Brick built with cavity walls ,tiled pitched roof, chipboard floors with cavity underneath ,UPVC windows and doors ,double -glazed- new patio door and one window altered in renovations
insulation beforehand: thin layer of rockwool on loft floor and stuck onto roofing felt, cavity wall insulation
afterwards: regulation 300mm thickness new insulation on loft floor
Available to view: ASHP, water cylinder, roof insulation, kitchen radiator
EPC beforehand was E . However, a new boiler was installed after the certificate was issued.
Afterwards : I haven`t had one done but the ASHP and the new insulation should improve the rating
Energy : beforehand - gas- fired combi boiler in attic , gas stove and oven , mains electricity
Replaced by all-electric house, gas meter removed, electric hob and oven , air source heat pump supplying central heating and hot water. All new radiators - double and one triple as flow temperature of ASHP system is 40 not 70 degrees through radiators. At the moment still on standard variable smart tariff with Octopus Energy. Haven`t tried their Cosy tariff for heat pumps yet . Very early days with my system - it was installed in May and I haven`t experienced winter yet! At the moment , it seems to maintain the house at 20 degrees and come on at odd hours of the night.
ASHP controlled by wi-fi Homely device .Am getting some tuition this week as I don`t understand how to control it yet- whether I can alter the schedules or whether the Homely company does. As for energy use- I save on the gas tariff and standing charge but far too early to tell whether it will work out cheaper to run an ASHP.
